Main characters

Samar of Agam

A witch from the south, Samar hires Reniard to help her navigate the northern kingdoms in search of her missing mother. While it’s not unusual for her mother to leave for years for her work, it’s rare that she can’t be contacted in any way. It’s comforting to know she’s alive, as none of the death speakers found her in the afterlife.

Samar is trained in healing spells and curses, with a couple of fire and defence spells in her arsenal too.

First appearance: Book 1

Reniard

Reniard travels with Samar as her bodyguard. He hopes that the older witch will be able to remove the blood curse that was cast on him. He fears whoever cursed him did it for their personal gain. And he doesn’t like being controlled. 

He is proficient with many different weapons and has trained since a young age. Half barbarian, Reniard has lived a longer life than an average human, leaving him more experienced.

Stijn

After years of traveling, Stijn returns to the thieves guild in Mossborough only to find it in disarray. Majority of valuables have been taken by former guild members, and the few members left are struggling recruits trying to make ends meet. Stijn uses the remaining guild’s resources to prepare for his journey North after revealing a few more secret caches to the guild members. 

First appearance: Book 1 disguised as Armand Dubois

Norrim Forgefire

As part of a small group of dwarves, Norrim was sent on a diplomatic mission through western kingdoms to Gorblath (Barbarian capital). On their way through Brightwood, his group is attacked by fairies and the documents are lost in the fight.

Stumbling into Stijn, Norrim pressures him into helping him recover the documents, and traveling together to Gorblath.

First appearance: Book 3

Kiln Styer

In the dark, damp cells of Estra, Samar and Reniard find her mother’s friend. Going against Reniard’s advice, Samar frees him, and the three flee the dark elves’ capital.

King Aldred Lenheim

King of the West Amberlands, Aldred used to rule his kingdom in peace alongside his brother’s. When his wife tragically died under misterious circumstances, Aldred lost his mind and accused his own brother of killing her. The two kingdoms have been at war since.

There were rumors that Aldred was going to end the war two years ago, but something happened to change his mind.

First appearance: Book 1

Fergus Rosen

Advisor to Aldred Lenheim, the king of West Amberlands. He serves as the king’s right hand, making sure his orders are followed, the people are kept in check, and gathering all the important information they need to turn the tides of war into their favor.

Queen Neeva

Queen of the Dark Elves, Neeva rules alongside her husband, King Eiric. Their marriage is purely political, to keep the peace among their people.

Neeva is one of the five founders of the Dark Market, and has remained as one of its council members still as a representative of Dark Elves. She has great knowledge and power when it comes to magic, with focus on demon summoning and subjugation.

First appearance: Book 3 also appears in the short comic Dark Market

Ivan

Ivan is the leader of rebels in West Amberlands. Hiding in Brightwood, their goal is to fight back for the people.

Others

Nico

Nico is one of the two remaining members of the Thieves’ Guild. He cares for Laura so much he is ready to do whatever it takes to help her achieve her dream. Even if it means accepting dangerous jobs or leaving Mossborough. 

First appearance: Book 2

Laura

Laura is one of the two remaining members of the Thieves’ Guild. Together with Nico, she plans and executes heists that bring the money into the guild, with hopes of one day reviving it. Laura dreams of doning the mantle of Bluebird and becoming the new guild leader.

Elena

Owner of the brothel “Galeria di Rose”, Elena is Reniard’s old friend. As Reniard says, Elena owes him a huge favor so in return she lets him sleep in one of the smaller rooms if it’s not otherwise occupied. Elena and her employees know all the latest news and rumors, and often have information otherwise known only to spies.

First appearance: Book 2

Tal

Tal works for Elena. On occasion, Reniard hires him on days he doesn’t feel great. lena introduced them to each other few years ago. Tal has the feeling he reminds Reniard of someone, and that’s why he choses to hire him.

Armand Dubois*

Stijn disguises himself as the fencing master Armand Dubois who travels to Mossborough, to live with his cousins and train their son how to use the sword like a proper gentleman. As the only passenger of Zephir with the papers granting him entry to the city state Mossborough, Dubois intervenes so that Samar and Reniard are allowed in as well.

Soren Walt

A kind-hearted young mage in training, Soren is not yet adept at using his abilities. After accompanying Fergus on his trip to Mossborough, he is sent back to Starfall academy to continue his training.
